Your sketch is the beginning. The prototype asks the questions.
An original Custom Lab guide to a clearer first production enquiry.
Keep the idea visible
A production enquiry can begin with a drawing. It does not need to look like a finished engineering package. Show the character from the front and, if possible, from the side and back. Label details that matter: a transparent belly, an embroidered eye, a heavy base or a removable accessory. Describe the personality as well as the shape.
Choose what must stay true
Separate essential details from flexible ones. If the expression is the whole character, say so. If you are open to a different material or a simpler joint, say that too. This helps the production team discuss practical options without guessing what makes your design yours.
Think about how it will be held
A desk sculpture, bag charm and plush companion ask different questions. Add a target size and intended use. Explain whether the piece should stand unaided, hang from hardware, feel soft or include moving parts. If there is packaging, sketch that separately instead of hiding it in a long paragraph.
Ask for a route, not a magic price
UNBOX Custom Lab starts production enquiries at 30 pieces. Material, process, finishing, packaging and sample work affect a quote, so the team needs to assess the drawings before confirming a price or schedule. Plush, soft vinyl, PVC, resin, ceramic, metal and acrylic are starting points for the discussion; they are not interchangeable.
Bring your own universe
Use artwork you own or have permission to produce. The homepage creatures are UNBOX concept art, not a ready-made production offer. Send your drawings through Custom Lab with the quantity and delivery destination. The goal of the first exchange is a clear brief and a workable next step.
